social and cultural sustainability

Economic and technological changes are radically influencing local communities and their everyday life, allowing people to connect and at the same time to disconnect from their authentic experience of a place. In support of the above statement, studies of vernacular architecture in the United Arab Emirates have shown that the indigenous people in the past had a profound understanding of their climate and their landscape. This understanding is important today, and it is critical to all projects that we undertake as part of our consultancy work. In each of our projects, our approach is primarily based on a detailed investigation into the local culture, its unique response to the particular climatic and landscape conditions, and the way these are then dealt with through architecture and design. Analysis of the past generates new concepts which are relevant to the present.
